On Saturday 7th March 2015 4 students and 2 members of staff travelled along with over 300 young people from across Birmingham to experience Flame 2 at Wembley Arena in London. The representatives joined over 8000 other young people in taking part in the largest gathering of young Catholics in Great Britain.
The day was a huge success and a great reminder that the Church is not dying out but rather flourishing with thousands of young Catholics keen to explorer and discuss their faith further. The core theme for the day was Joy, particularly the Joy of the Gospel and how to take that Joy and share it with the world.
Key speakers included Cardinal Luis Tagle who travelled from the Philippines to evangelise the crowd with a powerful personal message of mercy and how showing mercy brings great joy to all. The day continued with talks from Timothy Radcliffe OP, Baroness Sheila Hollins and David Wells all of whom were incredibly engaging and who shared great wisdom about the faith.
Throughout the day music was provided by the wonderful, double Grammy Award winner, Matt Redman who led us all in praising God, students commented that hearing so many people praising together helped to affirm their faith and was something they would remember for ever. The day concluded with adoration led by Cardinal Vincent Nichols which was a truly joyous way to end the day. Students found the whole experience incredibly powerful and hope to be involved in similar events in the future.
