Useful English Language Revision Tips

How to revise:
  • Complete practise papers.  Remember to use the feedback given to you in your exercise book, and from your mock exam.
  • Read back through your exercise books. Highlight key information.
  • Make revision mind-maps or lists of language techniques and structural features. Include terms, definitions, and examples.
  • Read high-quality news articles (visit the Guardian, Independent or Telegraph websites). Analyse the language and structural features in them.
  • Read high quality short stories – there are lots available on the internet.
  • If you are unsure of a word meaning or a feature, look it up! Don’t just stay ignorant.
  • Learn to identify nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs correctly. Type in ‘word classes quiz’ or ‘parts of speech quiz’ into Google or YouTube and you will find lots of ways to do this.
