Overview
At St Margaret Ward Catholic Academy, we offer a broad and balanced curriculum, providing all students with opportunities to gain essential knowledge, understanding and skills that will equip them for life in school and for beyond the classroom.  Attitudes for Life are an integral feature of our curriculum across all year groups so that aspirations can continue to grow and so all students are encouraged to become responsible for their own development as they progress through each key stage.

We offer the full range of National Curriculum subjects, including Religious Education as a core subject for all. At Key Stage 4, there is an opportunity for students to broaden their experiences and choose from a range of courses most suitable to their needs and aspirations, including the English Baccalaureate.

Literacy and numeracy are important aspects of our curriculum and, in particular, a commitment to reading and developing each student’s love of books is evident on a daily basis throughout the academy.

A full and balanced programme of sex education is provided in which we help pupils to understand the physical, emotional and psychological changes that occur during adolescence and their implications on relationships. This course, delivered in partnership between the Science and Religious Education departments, places sexuality within the context of our uniqueness as children of God.

Careers education and guidance is available throughout the school and enhances students' confidence and motivation and raises their aspirations. The structured programme gives students the skills, knowledge and understanding they need to manage their career paths and prepare for life beyond school.

Our post-16 students develop their interests in an environment in which they feel secure and with teachers in whom they have confidence. Further information about our sixth form is available in the Trinity Sixth Form section of this website and from each of the partner schools.

Our wider curriculum provides each student with the chance to develop their talents and interests in a number of areas including the performing and visual arts, sports and technology. Our extensive programme of educational visits for each year group also contributes to our wider curriculum. Please refer to the Home page section of the website for a flavour of our extra-curricular events and activities.
