Trinity Sixth Form

St Margaret Ward Sixth Form
St Margaret Ward Sixth Form is part of the Trinity Sixth form; a collaboration between four local schools:
St Margaret Ward Catholic Academy, St John Fisher Catholic Academy and St Thomas More Catholic Academy, to enable students with the benefits of wider curriculum choice, greater flexibility and independence whilst maintaining a very personal relationship with each student.  You could say we offer all the advantages of a big college alongside the best aspects of a small Sixth Form community.

The purpose of our Sixth Form is to give students the necessary skills to enable them to make well judged choices in their life.  We strive to ensure that all students achieve their potential in their academic studies in order to give them greater scope in their choice of Higher Education or employment.  However, students must also continue to develop their personal skills and show university admission tutors or employers that they have widened their responsibilities and experience.  We encourage active involvement in school life and the wider community in order to nurture and develop the essential skills of team work and initiative.  We operate within the wider Catholic community of the school, promoting mutual respect and responsibility towards ourselves and others, as well as the wider Trinity community.
Teaching
By working with three other local schools, we are able to offer students have a wide range of A level subjects to choose from as well as some level 3 BTEC courses being offered.  Students may choose courses at any of the Trinity schools and thus have far greater choice and flexibility in their academic options as well as the benefits of meeting many new people.  Students who choose to take a subject at another school, are transported to lessons and from lessons by one of the Trinity mini buses. Whether lessons are held at SMW or one of our partner schools within the Trinity Sixth form, teachers are committed to their subjects and students are closely guided and supported to gain the study skills and qualifications necessary for Higher education.  We monitor lessons regularly to ensure that high standards are maintained.
Pastoral Provision

A team of specialist tutors guides and mentors students throughout their two years in the sixth form, from induction in Year1 2 through to the entire UCAS process and revision and study skills. A number of external speaker are invited in to widen students’ understanding of both Higher Education, employment and wider world issues.

Personal Skills

Developing self-confidence and personal skills is a two way process.  We provide the opportunities and support and students ‘sign up’ to lead or to be involved  through a wide and varied enrichment programme which is individually tailored to meet the needs and interests of each student in order to best support them in their future choices.

Facilities

Lessons are usually taught within specialist subject rooms or labs to ensure that students experience the best possible facilities.  In addition, a new study room is available solely for 6th form and staff use, with over 50 high speed computers as well as ample working space.  The canteen is open all day and Sixth form students can access this in study periods as well as before school, at break time and home time.

Sixth Form Guide
A detailed guide is available to help prospective and current students to adjust to the very different expectations of post-16 education and to make the most of all opportunities available in our Sixth Form.
The Trinity prospectus is available.

The Trinity Sixth Form is a collaborative partnership between  St. Margaret Ward Academy and our three partners: St. John Fisher Catholic College, St. Thomas More Catholic College. Launched in September 2012, the sixth form is  open to students who are not currently studying at one of the partner colleges.

Working in partnership with each other, we are committed to providing excellent post-16 education in a caring, respectful and stimulating environment across all four sites. The ethos of The Trinity Sixth Form is an accumulation of each partner’s own ethos, easily summarised in our mission statement of “succeeding together”.
In achieving this success, all who study at The Trinity Sixth Form are supported in being the best they can be as they grow as individuals and move through their post-16 education and beyond. A commitment to stimulating teaching and learning, personal career advice and guidance in a friendly environment built on trust and respect are the foundations of our unique sixth form.
