We are blessed to have the Diocescan retreat centres of Alton Castle and Soli House in this area. Both are situated in the beautiful village of Alton (near Alton Towers) in the Staffordshire Moorlands. The retreat centres offer our students the opportunity to stop and reflect on their faith and personal relationship with Christ.
Alton Castle is actually in a Castle. The Castle has a history going back to Medieval times and strong links with the Church. In 1996, the Castle reopened as a retreat centre where, students from St Margaret Ward were the first to visit.
The Castle offers our young people the opportunity to come together and reflect on their faith. It offers them the opportunity to pray and worship.

Soli House was originally in Stratford-upon-Avon but moved to the village of Alton in recent years. It offers students, from year 9 onwards the opportunity to reflect and grow in their faith.

Students from Year 12 are given the opportunity to go to Lourdes. Lourdes is in the South of France and is where St Bernadette experienced a vision of Our Lady, Mother of Jesus.
Today, pilgrims travel from all around the world to visit this very special place. Some go just out of curiosity, others on pilgrimage, and others to pray. However, for some it is a place for those who are sick, suffering or dying.
Our students join the Diocesan pilgrimage and go not only for their own personal reasons, but to help support those who are ill, have limited mobility or in need. It is a wonderful experience and many of our students have returned to carry on the work they began in year 12. For some of our students, it has led them into the caring professions.
