Curriculum

From the first day of Year 7, we are committed to providing all of our students with a rigorous, broad and balanced curriculum that instills the very highest of expectations. Based on challenging content, our “Teaching Minds” curriculum is determined by what we consider to be the “best that has been thought and said” within and across each subject discipline. The curriculum allows for progression through each subject area’s selected content and through regular assessment opportunities, individual student progress is ensured. Our aim, as a school, is for all of our students to benefit from the challenge provided by our curriculum and, in doing so, become extraordinary young people able to enter the world beyond school with confidence and the ability to compete on equal terms with their peers.

We offer the full range of National Curriculum subjects, including Religious Studies as a core subject for all. Literacy is an important aspect of our curriculum. In addition to a daily commitment to reading for all students, years 7 and 8 participate in discrete reading lessons. At Key Stage 4, students personalise their experiences and choose from a wide range of academic and vocational qualifications most suitable to their needs and aspirations to supplement their core studies. This includes a commitment to the English Baccalaureate for targeted students.

Our distinctiveness as a Catholic school following the definitive features of Jean Baptiste de la Salle ensures we take every opportunity across the curriculum to provide “quality education” and to promote the spiritual life of the school; helping and supporting students to develop their understanding and appreciation of being in God’s presence at all times and by doing so becoming Lasallian people of God.

Our post-16 students develop their academic interests in an environment in which they feel secure and with teachers in whom they have confidence. Together with our sixth form partners, the Trinity Sixth Form provides an extensive range of courses and a wider curriculum that prepares students for university and future employment.
