On the 4th July, a group of Year 9 students attended a science SASCAL event at Staffordshire University. The students were involved in a number of activities and were taught how science is used in the diagnosis and epidemiology of disease. Activities included looking at blood slides, followed by blood grouping. They then worked with students from other schools to diagnose an illness in a patient. After lunch the students were taught how environmental health officers used epidemiology to find the source of an outbreak and the most likely form of transmission.
