Mrs Mills and Mrs Holdcroft were invited to attend a VIP Stoke Reads event to speak about the work that the school have been doing to promote reading. They had the opportunity to talk at length with Jonathan Douglas CBE Chief Executive of The National Literacy Trust and Darren Henley Chief Executive of the Arts Council.
The day was a huge success and SMW even got a mention in Jonathan Douglas’s post-event comments:
‘Thank you for one of the most inspiring days I can remember. It was obvious throughout the day that our work in Stoke is making a powerful difference. The stories of the Literacy Champions were a testimony to the Stoke team’s deep knowledge, commitment and belief in the community. I’ve spent today telling everyone about Caroline and Jayden and St Margaret Ward School. And the Youth Lit Champs in Tunstall Library were just the best. I couldn’t have been prouder to have shared your work with our friends at ACE and I know they had a brilliant time.’
SMW are very honoured to have been asked to become a National Literacy Trust partner school and we are really excited to continue to work with Stoke Reads to improve standards and raise the profile of reading in the school and the community as a whole.
