The Makers’ Challenge at Derby Museum

Our students had a wonderful time at the opening day of The Makers’ Challenge at Derby Museum. We have entered a Year 9 team (Lizzie, Fiker , Laila , Elody ) and a Year 10 team (Lydia , Ayousha , Maddison ). Both teams were challenged to think creatively and work collaboratively to design inventions that could assist in beating Climate Change. I was so proud of each and every one of them. They are an absolute credit to themselves, the school and their families.

The next steps will involve each team working together on modules which include looking at the history of making in Derby, Climate Change, problem solving and designing with empathy. Each team will be assigned a mentor from the Museum of Making to support them along the way, as well as a maker’s kit that can be used to build their idea.

Paul Liptrot from the Maker’s Museum said “It was wonderful meeting you and your pupils yesterday, we really enjoyed watching them engage with the challenge and to come up with some amazing first steps. ”

It was great to see the creative minds of our students and the look of enjoyment on their faces! We can’t wait to start the next steps of the challenge! Miss Ryan
