On Monday 31st March our dance club students wowed audiences at the 025 Dance festival at The Victoria Hall, Hanley, with a dance piece inspired by William Shakespeare’s timeless tragedy, Romeo and Juliet.
As part of our school’s interpretation of the theme, Reading is Dreaming with Eyes Open – Dance Your Dream, we brought this classic love story to life through movement, exploring the power of dreams, destiny, and forbidden love. Our piece reimagined the world of Romeo and Juliet, where passion, conflict, and hope collide.
Through our choreography, we depicted the intensity of their love, the tension between their families, and the dream of a world where love conquers all. Just as reading allows us to step into different lives and possibilities, our dance invited you to experience this iconic tale in a new and emotive way.
Many of the dancers had joined in the ‘0 Dance Festival’ previously with their primary school but for some it was their first opportunity to dance on such a large stage and they did an amazing job!
Special thanks goes to Laila in Y11 who took on the dance leader role, leading warm-ups and rehearsals and choreographing the whole dance with help from Mrs Page and the dance club dancers. Well done dancers! It was an absolute pleasure to see you perform.
