14 of our Y8/9 girls went to the University of Staffordshire to take part in the Girls in IT 2026 day.
This year, they were celebrating the power of standing out to drive change, as well as learning about key female figures who lead the way in computing. Female leaders shared their personal journeys, mentorship experiences, and bold visions for the future of tech—exploring AI, inclusivity, and the limitless possibilities ahead.
This event is a tribute to the women and girls reshaping technology through fearless innovation which started with a UK and Ireland link up with other universities and schools and a keynote talk about AI development from Elizabeth Barr from Cisco.
The girls got to experience many of the high tech facilities at Staffordshire University, including radio production, motion capture, film making, E-sports and where able to see the backbone of the computing network at the university. In the afternoon our girls created a idea for a new AI application and wowed the judges with their pitch – winning the day!
They’d also like to pass on their thanks to:
