After the last visit to Claybourne, the residents invited the pupils to visit again so that they could complete an art project together. Everyone enjoyed their time together, learning about each other’s life. Telling stories of what school was like for them, even receiving the cane for misbehaviour!
Some of the residents found it difficult to remember details of their younger life but with the help of family members and staff, the pupils found out a lot including residents that were previously in the armed forces to their favourite story of how one lady met the Queen and drove a Mercedes and sports car.
The love hearts and rainbows that the pupils prepared before the visit were colourful with some lovely, caring, inspirational messages to add to the residents’ Jessie tree.
We ended the visit by joining together in their service lead by the minister who visits several times a week with a joyful song of ‘He’s got the whole world in his hand’ and Shine Jesus Shine’.
Before we left, the staff asked if our next session could take place in St Margaret Ward so that a few of the residents could have an outing to visit school and the pupils. We are hoping to arrange this sometime next term.
