Hera wins Influencer Award

We were delighted that SMWCA’s Barclays Game Changer and Football Activator, Hera, was chosen to receive England Football’s #Letgirlsplay Influencer Award for all of the hard work she has done for the Barclays girls’ football school partnerships.

Hera has been leading the Football Activators in their campaign for girls to have equal access to football by 2024. She has campaigned to have football on the curriculum for girls in all year groups, have more places for girls to play football and have a football kit for the girls’ football team. She has spoken about the work that the Activators have done to promote girls’ football, created 3 girls’ football clubs, spoken to PE teachers across the city to promote #letgirls play and has run a city tournament for girls who had not played football before. All this, along with running the successful Let Girls Play day for y5-y11.

The FA and Youth Sports Trust surprised Hera by coming in to film her collecting her trophy and a signed picture from Lionesses midfielder Kiera Walsh!

We are incredibly proud of Hera and the work she and the Activators have done this year.
