SMWCA hosts official BookTok bookcase!

St Margaret Ward are very proud to be the only school in Stoke-on-Trent hosting an official BookTok bookcase.

Our continued partnership with the National Literacy Trust has meant that we are one of only two locations that has been given this opportunity.  The bookcase is well stocked with  books that have been recommended by users of BookTok.

The launch of the official BookTok Bookcase aims to motivate reading for pleasure, striving to boost literacy levels by increasing access to books in the city.

As St Margaret Ward is a National Literacy Trust partner school, it was asked to host one of the bookcases in the sixth form study room which is already proving popular.

Head of English at SMWCA, Rebecca Mills said: “We are hoping that the bookcase will promote reading for pleasure in the sixth form as something that will improve students’ overall literacy and make a positive impact on mental health and exam stress.

“We have a number of trained Literacy Champions within school and are planning on recruiting even more to help look after the books and monitor their use.”

Principal, Dominic McKenna said: “We’re very proud to be the only school in Stoke-on-Trent to be selected to host a BookTok Bookcase. Our continued partnership with the National Literacy Trust has meant we are one of only two locations in the city to have been given this opportunity.

“Reading is an incredible pastime for students which is proven to reduce stress, improve memory, vocabulary and knowledge as well as improve focus and concentration. Reading is a huge part of life at St Margaret Ward, and we’re thrilled that the National Literacy Trust has recognised our passion and dedication to literature.

“We know these books will spread the joy of reading even further in our school.”
