St Margaret Ward Catholic Academy celebrates exceptional GCSE results

St Margaret Ward Catholic Academy students have once again achieved excellent GCSE results ranking higher than last year’s city-wide average.

This year, 61% received a 5 Standard pass (grades 9-4) including in English and Mathematics and many students received a 5 Strong pass (grades 9- 5) including English and Mathematics.

A great result was recorded for the Strong pass in EBacc with 14% securing grades 9-5 and 23% achieving a Standard pass with grades 9-4.

Students who are top of the class include Lydia Clough with 6 grade 9s and 3 grade 8s; and Liam Pritchard who secured 2 grade 9s and 5 grade 8s.

Principal Dominic McKenna is pleased with this year’s results and commented: “Once again, our students’ hard work has paid off and they’ve achieved such good grades. We’re very proud of this year’s cohort and look forward to seeing where their futures lead.

“We’re pleased that so many students have chosen to continue their studies with our Trinity Sixth Form which is renowned for achieving great academic results, as our A-Level results last week show.”

Liam, (16), was particularly pleased with his English results achieving a 9 in both Language and Literature. He is continuing his studies with St Margaret Ward Trinity Sixth Form where he’ll study Computer Science, Mathematics and English Literature. He said: “I’m staying at St Margaret Ward because it feels like home here.”

Lydia, (16), will continue on with St Margaret Ward Trinity Sixth Form to study Biology, Chemistry and Geography. She said: “I’ve enjoyed coming to St Margaret Ward for lessons so wanted to stay on at the sixth form because I know it, it’s close to home but also because the support you receive here is better than another sixth form college.

“I’m pleased with my results, they are similar to my mock exam results but it’s still a relief to have achieved them.”
