Welcome to Stoke-on-Trent Poster Competition

Submission Deadline: 30th March 5pm

Stoke-on-Trent has always been a city that welcomes different cultures and different languages. To celebrate Stoke-on-Trent’s 100th birthday, Keele University wants you to design a poster celebrating our amazing city – but not in English. They want you to design a poster in German, French, Spanish, or Polish!

Why do they want you to write in a different language?

Speaking another language helps you understand different cultures, it can lead to new friendships and more fun when you’re on holiday. It may even help you to study or work in another country!

What should your poster include?

Your poster should tell people something about Stoke-on -Trent. You can include what we’re famous for, some local landmarks, local food, famous people – the more the better! You can focus either on the whole city, or just your local area.

Your poster should be no larger than a sheet of A3 paper.

You can draw, paint, use material – anything you like. You can also use a computer.

There will be prizes for the most creative entries.

Please make sure that you design your own poster (KS1 students may receive some help from their teachers/parents of course!)

How will the posters be judged?

  1. How creative is the poster?
  2. How good is the language?
  3. Will the poster make people want to visit Stoke-on-Trent?

There are five age categories:

  • Key Stage 1: Your poster must contain at least 5 words in German, French, Spanish, or Polish.
  • Key Stage 2: Your poster must contain at least 10 words in German, French, Spanish, or Polish.
  • Key Stage 3: Your poster must contain at least 20 words in German, French, Spanish, or Polish.
  • Key Stage 4: your poster must contain at least 30 words in German, French, Spanish, or Polish.
  • Post 16: Your poster must contain at least 30 words in German, French, Spanish, or Polish.

What can you win?

The winner of each age group and their families will be invited to matchday hospitality at a Port Vale home game in the 2025/26 season. Their entry will be enlarged, printed out as a poster and displayed in the Potteries Museum, Port Vale Football Club, and Keele University. The winners will also receive a Keele University tote bag full of goodies.

The runners up in each group will each be offered a Port Vale match day ticket for the 2025/26 season. Their entry will be enlarged, printed out as a poster and displayed in the Potteries Museum, Port Vale Football Club, and Keele University. The runners up will also receive a Keele University tote bag full of goodies.

Who will be the judges?

There will be a panel of four judges, all of whom can speak more than one language. Judges will be international football players based in the local area, members from the local community and language teachers at Keele University.

Please make sure that you send your poster as a pdf (maximum file size 2mb) along with the cover sheet below. You need only write your first name, your school and your school year. All of the posters and the cover sheets will be deleted after the competition has finished.
